Scott Quinnell
Scott Quinnell may have an outstanding reputation as a rugby player but his struggle with dyslexia has also proved to be an inspiration for many adult learners. Unable to read or write until he underwent the DORE education programme at 33, Scott has inspired many to face their demons and return to learning, through his frank, honest and positive attitude.
Charlotte Galsworthy, Wulf Project Manager and Scott's nominator describes his him as 'one of my biggest inspirations for the individual that he is. Even being known as a celebrity in the world of rugby, Scott always has time for every individual regardless of background, job role or diversity. He has a natural ability to make people feel special and believe in themselves. This is not an ability many people have.'
Scott's heroics on the field for Wales have been well documented but Charlotte hopes that 'Scott will gain more recognition for his achievements in raising the awareness of learning difficulties, to inspire those that may not have been aware that they have to come forward.'
Charlotte has now been able to pass on what she has learnt from Scott and the DORE team and use it within her role as WULF project manager at Corus Strip products. 'Within our project a number of people have already returned to education,' says Charlotte, 'to up skill/ educate themselves within their job-role, family life and community, from being inspired by Scott.'
