Maragret Odyomo

Margaret Odyomo's efforts in promoting the Welsh Language have not only made a big difference in Chepstow but also to her personal life. She's been learning Welsh for years and she is a key part of the high level lesson in 'The Bungalow', Cil y coed.

Margaret's nominator, Heulwen Williams, believes that 'Margaret ensures classes happen in the area . She has sold her home and bought a shop in Moore Street Chepstow to sell Welsh Language books and resources. The shop is called Siop Siarad, and it's purpose is to give people the opportunity to use Welsh in everyday life. She helps and supports learners and she is always patient and caring. Margaret organises talking sessions every Wednesday at 11.30am and there is a welcome for any learner top call in for help or an opportunity to practice. There is always a very warm welcome to everyone who calls in.'

'When I retired, I finally had the opportunity to learn Welsh' says Margaret ' but it proved almost impossible for learners in Chepstow to practice and consolidate their learning. I decided to put my money where my mouth was and hopefully act as a catalyst for others.'

Margarets aim of promoting the Welsh language  has made a world of difference in raising awareness of language in Chepstow and, according to her nominator ' is a great example of someone who should be recognized for their dedication, hard work and commitment to their community.'
