Lifelong learning

"Learning has the power to transform people's lives through helping them develop skills that will carry them forward in their personal and professional lives"

Enid Rowlands, Chairman of the National Council - ELWa in her foreword to "Symud Ymlaen -Moving Forward"

It is becoming widely accepted that encouraging adults to take part in learning activities is beneficial in a number of ways, some of which are particularly pertinent to older people themselves:-

  • Develops and updates skills in a rapidly changing world
  • Provides a sense of achievement and improves self confidence
  • Prolongs employability where this is required
  • Encourages involvement in the local community
  • Provides social contact and reduces isolation
  • Can improve general health and well being
  • And also to the society and community in which they live:-
  • Gives access to a wealth of experience and skills
  • Reduces dependance and encourages community involvement
  • Extends individual's economic activity
