John Martin Dilworth
Due to his undiagnosed dyslexia, John Martin Dilworth spent most of his life feeling he was either 'stupid or inadequate.' Martin's took various jobs, but none with a recognized career path. Knowing he needed education and qualifications to succeed, Martin struggled with his dyslexia to take a numerous courses over the years including a Level 3 Diploma in Playwork, but always had to rely on others to help. Although extremely grateful for the help, he still found the process demeaning and frustrating.
Martin decided to contact Deeside College to enquire about a Level 4 qualification to help him progress an Out of School club he jointly managed with his wife and another family member. Whilst participating on the course, Martin took a Basic Skills screening process where he was finally diagnosed as having both Dyslexia and Irlen's Syndrome.
Martin's confidence has grown so much he has embarked into opening a second Out of School Club. Martin's tutor, Dawn Hughes of Deeside College says that 'Through his enthusiasm Martin is able to inspire his staff to learn about and understand dyslexia and the ways to overcome the barriers it can create. He is an inspiration to all who need to overcome adversity to succeed in their chosen career.'
Martin now looks forward to completing both Level 4 qualifications in the near future and is looking forward to his future life as a confident achiever.
